چکیده

Dairy wastewater (DWW) contains large amounts of mineral and organic compounds, which can accumulate in soil water causing serious environmental pollution. A constructed wetland (CW) is a sustainable technology for the treatment DWW small-medium sized farms. This paper reports two-year study on performance pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow system Sicily (Italy). The CW covered total surface area 100 m2 treated approximately 6 m3 per day produced by small dairy farm, subsequent to biological treatment. Removal efficiency (RE) was calculated. biomass production two emergent macrophytes determined effect plant growth pollutant RE recorded. All parameters showed significant differences between inlet outlet. For BOD5 COD, values were 76.00% 62.00%, respectively. nitrogen (50.70%) lower than that compounds. levels microbiological found be higher 80.00%. Giant reed greater umbrella sedge. seasonal variation pollutants recorded due rate Our findings highlight efficient use dairy-cattle

Pollutant removal by Canna Generalis in tropical constructed wetlands for domestic wastewater treatment

Constructed wetlands have not been commonly used in Vietnam due to the lack of information in the selection of proper types of constructed wetlands, type of reeds, design parameters and performance efficiency, in tropical climates. This paper focuses on Canna generalis, which is a common reed and easy to grow both in water and wet land conditions. Two kinds of hybrid constructed wetlan...

Removal efficiency of nitrate, phosphate, fecal and total coliforms by horizontal subsurface flow-constructed wetland from domestic wastewater

Background: Constructed wetlands are systems designed based on the utilization of natural processes, including vegetation, soil, and their associated microbial assemblage to assist in treating different types of wastewater. Methods: Two local Appalachian plants (Louis latifolia and Phragmites australis) were planted into smallscale constructed wetlands to treat domestic wastewater in the North ...

Constructed Wetland Treatment of Nitrates: Removal Effectiveness and Cost Efficiency

A constructed wetland (CW) was strategically placed to treat nitrates in groundwater as part of a watershed-based farmer engagement process. Using stream water quality data collected before and after installation, this CW was found to reduce stream concentrations of nitrogen from nitrate (NO3-N) during the growing season by about 0.14 mg/l at mean streamflow, a 17% reduction. Based upon realist...

Wastewater Treatment with Vertical Flow Constructed Wetland

Water is one of the most important elements involved in the creation and development of healthy life. Haphazard disposal of untreated wastewater from households as well as institutions and industry is causing severe deterioration of water bodies in many urban areas in the developing world. There are several methods to treat the municipal wastewater for intended use. One of the methods of the tr...
